After the charming original Hotel Transylvania movie, this sequel does not disappoint. As in the first movie, Genndy Tartakovsky (the director) brings out an interesting combination of animation and live action that is both unique and enjoyable.This film picks up right after the end of the first one. Dracula (Adam Sandler) has opened up his hotel to human guests in order to make friends with them, but he hasn't anticipated one little problem: Drac's daughter (Mavis, voiced by Selena Gomez) is starting to fall in love with a human! This has Dracula worried since Mavis's mother died because she fell in love with a human. So, Drac has to convince Mavis that humans aren't good for her and get her to change her mind. Mavis doesn't like to be told what to do and gets mad at Dracula, and she runs out the door and into the human world!We get a really fun combination of animation and live action in this film. The animation is really great in the beginning when we see the hotel under construction and Mavis's mother talking about how she should never fall in love with a human because it would kill her. Those scenes were so funny because they were so animated! The animation was crazy, colorful, crazy-looking characters, great designs, cool environments...it was just so much fun. The live action was used to tell the plot and connect the story. I liked that a lot, but I wouldn't have minded if they had used more of it.You could say this film has a plot twist in the story because Dracula's friends all think he is an amazing guy, but in reality he tells his daughter not to fall in love with a human! We know that Dracula is mean, but we usually think he's trying to be nice. In this movie, we see that it's hard to be nice when you're afraid for your own life. There are some really great parts that show this.The voice acting was just as good as it was in the first one. Adam Sandler is so funny as Dracula! He is the king of comedy, and he shows it once again in this movie. You'll be laughing so hard at some of his lines. I think he'd be one of the most fun fathers to have because he's so silly and lovable. Selena Gomez does a good job voicing Mavis; she has a lot of personality and she gets to sing on her own which she hasn't done on another movie yet (not counting her duet with Jennifer Lopez). Steve Buscemi voices Wayne, Dracula's best friend (and probably my favorite character).
